We had a mild freak out when we arrived at the WW and found that the soccer game was on. Luckily when we got back after hitting up the ATM, we found Brock taking the stage. What a relief. We'd seriously be lost without Thursday Karaoke. (Shameful, maybe).
As always, we took our front row seats, said hello to Brock and listen to him start the night. Brock was in an especially "dancy" mood today and he was rocking out to Frank Sinatra, and then ofcourse one of our favorites "Human". Are we human or are we dancers? He also dedicated "The Most Beautiful Girl in the Room" to his American and Australian friends. Yep, regulars. Allistar came up and sang "Don't Let the Sun Go Down on Me" and all the regulars put up an X. Yep I started that signal. Win. For sure. Then, ofcourse our Canadian friend (or at least he later asked us if we wanted to go to another bar with him) sang Gangsta's Paradise. He sings it every week, and every week I sing along. And Brock must notice cause he sent this one out as a shoutout to the Chicago girls.
After much debate, we decided on "Say a little prayer for you". I was thinking My Best Friend's Wedding, break out the lobster claws, start a singalong. Brock called us to the stage as his four favorite girls and we did our best Dione Warwick. He also made jokes about Laura's fractured foot and tried to tell the whole bar that she was drunk when she injured it. Not true, Brock, not true. We busted out the Dione, but it wasn't as smooth as it could be so Brock suggested a more recognized tune afterwards. His selection, what he makes us sing every week, Oops I Did It Again. We told him he makes us sing it every week and he told us it's because he likes the way we say Oops. Kind of creepy Brock, kind of creepy. The crowd was into it and there were a few select dancers who were breaking it out in front of the stage. And Brock even joined us for a few notes.
But the real dancers would come just a bit later when Dean, Will, and Eddie showed up. New faces to the Wicked Wolf but we were soon captivated by Dean's dance moves. When he kept saying "Feed the Chickens" we were a little confused. Until he explained that was the name of his dance moves. He later showed us how to "feed the chickens" and told us the importance of thrusting our hips as we fed them, because the chickens like it and lay more eggs when you do it. Best new dance move ever. He also did some dancing with Laura's crutches including "rowing the boat". And also did some "rope" pulling. He was very creative. He actually danced around like an airplane for most of the night. There is no way I could accurately capture it with my words, so I hope this video will do it justice. It's a little dark...the Wicked Wolf has some mood lighting.
Allistar then got on stage with the Canadian to sing some Garth. (Me and Stac started the Garth trend). The song of choice: The Dance. What a great song. Allistar kept telling his friend to PROJECT. The X factor himself giving musical advice. Dean and Will felt it was appropriate to slow dance with one another during this song. This slow dancing included many turns and lifts, I'm pretty sure No One Puts Dean In the Corner. It was also an interpretative dance of sorts. These videos hopefully capture the ridiculousness that was Dean's dancing. Here's them rocking out to Allistar singing I Swear. I think that we may have also started the Boyz II Men trend.
When it was time for Dean to take the stage, he chose Vertigo by U2. (The Irish love their U2). Now we've seen a lot of good performers and not so good performers in our weeks at the Wicked Wolf. While Allistar may have the voice, Deano tore it up in stage presence. He was rocking, twirling, jumping around the stage. We were in the audience doing the feed the chicken dance as promised. It was ridiculous. He even tried to use the stool as a prop until the barkeep (I wish I knew his name) took it away from him. Dean was all riled up and then decided to "party boy" around the dance floor. Things were getting ridiculous. Eddie got up to sing a song to his girlfriend --You're So Beautiful to Me-- and Dean kept saying what a "sad bastard" he was. Very loudly. I felt much better when I realized that Dean was friends with Eddie and not just being obnoxious.
Then a crowd favorite. Don't stop believing. Claire and Dean dominated the dance floor. What a song, what a song. Please note the "Feed the Chickens" dance as it is featured at the end of the video.
The end of the night was nearing. Track jacket guy did another depressing anthem and another guy sang My Way again. Two times in one night, come on Brock. But he made it up to us by singing "End of the Road" with Allistar for us and dedicated to us. Boyz II Men classic for sure.
The end of the night came. We bid farewell to our friends, who despite their disdain for the Wicked Wolf promised they'd be back next week. Dean also broke into song... his song of choice: Yankee Doodle. Fantastic. American pride. We may have been showing our red, white, and blue when we told Dean to chug his full beer chanting "chug, chug, chug, do something crazy, do something crazy, freshman, freshman, freshman". Dean's dance moves may have made him a favorite of mine, but it was when he put his fingers to his head and said UNAGI, that he won some serious points. A friends reference?!?! Really Deano, the hairdresser.
We left the Wicked Wolf and stopped to talk to Brock who had gone to "take a leek and have a smoke". He had made some American comments about how we say "let's DO it" and Dean started talking about the Jersey Shore and the Guidos. Oh great, America at its finest. We also talked about Brock's love for diners where the "top you up" and refered to Eddie Rockets as Empty Pockets. Dean replied that that most of those places employ the chinese who just ask "what you want" as he did his best impression (complete with squinty eyes). Ridiculousness.
You know when you're a regular when:
1. The barkeep notices you got an inch cut of your hair.
2. The locals recognize you and invite you out for drinks afterwards
3. The DJ knows your hometown and your major
4. The DJ knows that you routinely go out for fast food after closing time
Ah regulars at a Irish local bar home of Thursday Night Karaoke. Time for Supermac's. Where they recognize us too. Stac got her regular chicken finger meal and I got a Milky Moo Chocolate Shake which I referred to as a Moo-Moo shake. Somehow that stuck. The guys in there love us, probably because we are their Thursday night entertainment. When he delivered their food and my shake to the table, Claire literally Moo'ed. We enjoyed our late night grease and Stacy ate her body weight in ketchup. 1 am closing time and to find a cab. Laura flagged one down with her crutch (which had been previously disassembled by Dean). The cab driver was a jolly man who literally blasted "Summer of 69" for us on our way home. Dublin City, Thursday Night, jamming out to Summer of 69 with our Irish cab driver. Brilliant.
We paid our fare, said goodnight, and walked laughing to Roebuck enjoying a lovely night in Dublin. Oh and doing the "Feed the Chickens" dance.
